Declaration of the Bab 2024: Shiraz Shavuot celebrates the Báb Declaration on May 22. Although the incident in question occurred on May 23, 1844, the commencement of the observation occurs 22 May, two hours and eleven minutes after sunset. Mulla Husayn, a Shi’a Muslim, embarked on a mission to locate the Promised One, a messiah envisioned in the sacred texts.

As a consequence, the Bahá’í faith emerged and rapidly disseminated from Shiraz to more than two hundred countries. The tenets that underpin the Bahá’í faith are derived from the sacred texts of the Báb.

A discourse held in Shiraz, Persia, one spring evening unveiled the Declaration of the Báb, a prophecy of the Bahá’í Faith. Bahá’í adherents observe the narrative of the Promised One and the pivotal moment in 1844, when the Báb solemnly declared himself the Messenger of God, on an annual basis. It was prophesied that he would “usher in an age of justice, unity, and peace,” and he adopted the Arabic name ‘Báb,’ which means ‘gate’ or ‘door,’ signifying that He was the conduit through which God would transmit His revelation.

It was anticipated that the Promised One would arrive decades before the Báb’s Declaration. Shaykh Ahmad-i-Ahsá’i, by name, commenced proclaiming the approach of a momentous occasion on which the Promised One would deliver his message to the entire world. A cohort of pupils exhibited profound devotion to the Shaykh, with one of them, Sayyid Kázim-i-Rashti, emerging as his successor. One of his disciples, Mulla Hussayn, is credited with the discovery of the Báb.

During his quest for the Promised One, Husayn encountered a youthful individual in Persia. Husayn engaged in a conversation with a young man named Siyyid Ali-Muhammad, who cordially welcomed him and extended a cup of tea. Muhammad disclosed during this dialogue that he was the Báb whom Husayn had been seeking. Husayn, profoundly perturbed by this disclosure, rigorously interrogated and assessed the individual, ultimately deducing that he was, in fact, the Promised One.

Despite having adherents from all over the world, the Bahá Faith is confronted with considerable opposition. The proliferation of the Bahá’í faith resulted in the martyrdom of thousands of adherents, and to this day, Bahá’ís in Iran continue to face opposition and persecution.
