Extra Food Stamps Texas: Texas residents who depend on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits can now seek replacements for lost food as a result of Hurricane Beryl’s catastrophic impact.
According to the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, affected SNAP users have an extended time to register for replacement benefits.
After losing food due to flooding, power outages, or property damage, recipients must apply for replacement SNAP benefits within 10 days. Due to Hurricane Beryl, the deadline has been extended to August 8.
Hurricane Beryl devastated Texas this week, knocking out power for millions. As of July 11, nearly one million Texans were still without power, and seven people had died from the disaster.
According to the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, 3.2 million Texans received SNAP benefits in May 2024. This delayed deadline and replacement benefits help the large number of SNAP beneficiaries affected by Hurricane Beryl.
“Our hearts grieve for all Texans impacted by Hurricane Beryl, including our fellow Texans who tragically lost their lives or were injured,” said Abbott.

“I maintain consistent communication with Chief Nim Kidd and Acting Governor Dan Patrick regarding the state’s ongoing recovery efforts in the affected regions of Texas and the state’s response to Hurricane Beryl.” Additionally, we will communicate with electrical providers on power restoration urgency.
“The safety of Texans is our top priority, and I encourage all residents of the state to continue to follow the instructions of local officials as severe weather threats persist in the coming days.” We’ll be there 24/7 until every Texan recovers.
How to submit an application for the benefits
Affected SNAP recipients may petition for replacement benefits by dialing 2-1-1 and selecting Option 2. They are required to submit Form H1855 (Affidavit for Nonreceipt or Destroyed SNAP Benefits) to the Texas Health and Human Services Commission at P.O. Box 149027, Austin, TX 78714-9027, or by fax at 877-447-2839.
The form must require applicants to provide the value of the missing or destroyed food items and the amount of their monthly SNAP benefits.
