Many US states recognize the holiday. In 2021, governors in Idaho, Wisconsin, Colorado, Michigan, South Carolina, Alabama, and Illinois declared January 23 Local Quilt Shop Day. In Colorado, there are 71 quilt stores, and the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum in Denver has over 500 quilts of diverse kinds. at Michigan, the Great Lakes Quilt Center is at the Michigan State University Museum.
