National Vet Girls Rock Day 2024 (US): February 19 marks the National Vet Girls Rise Day observance. The day recognizes the service of female veterans of the United States military and provides community and national organizations with an opportunity to extend their gratitude.

President Theodore Roosevelt founded the Navy Nurse Corps in 1908, and the first twenty female members of this esteemed group were affectionately known as “The Sacred Twenty.”
Loretta Perfectus Walsh made history in 1917 by becoming the first woman formally enlisted in the American Navy. During the final two years of World War II, females were officially authorized to participate in combat and take on active military responsibilities. 33,000 women volunteered for various positions. As part of the Women’s Air Force Service Program, hundreds of them conducted aircraft tests.
