Syrian territory was incorporated into the Islamic dominion during the period of 634–640, when it was conquered by Muslim Arab forces led by Khalid Ibn al-Rashidun Walid. During the seventh century, when the Umayyad dynasty controlled the empire, the capital was moved to Damascus. Syria was comprised of the districts of Homs, Damascus, Palestine, and Jordan at this time.
