Goddess Sita was born Tuesday in Pushya Nakshatra. The Ramayana describes Sita as the daughter of King Janaka of Mithila and Queen Sunayana. Janaka met Sita while working a field; she appeared from the earth, hence her name, “Sita,” meaning “furrow.” Sita was found in a golden coffin and became Janaka and Sunayana’s mother.
